  1. Take 700 ml coconut milk
  2. Make ready 150 gram rice flour
  3. Make ready 75 gram tapioca flour
  4. Get 150 gram sugar or as desired
  5. Take 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  6. Take 1 tsp vanili
  7. Take 1 pinch salt
  8. Take 1 pandan leaf

This kue lapis or steamed layer cake is one of my childhood favorites. Kue Lapis (Steamed Layer Cake) Kueh Lapis, or Steamed Layer Cake / Jiu Ceng Gao, never fails to put a smile on my face.

Steps to make Layer Cake (Kue Lapis):
  1. Heat up coconut milk with pandan leaf and salt. Wait until bubbles appears. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix coconut milk, sugar, and flour. Wisk throughly until incorporated and there is no lump.
  3. Divedid mixture into two parts. Add cocoa powder in one of mixture.
  4. Grease mold with oil. Prepare the steamer. Pour about 50 ml chocolate mixture, and steam for 5 minutes. Open the lid, and add white mixture on chocolate mixture. Steam for 5 minutes. Repeat until finish.
  5. Transfer the cake from steamer. Let it cool and slice it. Serve and enjoy !

After all, who can forget having these as a child, peeling off the layers individually and slowly savouring each soft, springy layer of coconut-y goodness!
